Dave Pope has over 25 years’ experience in the travel and leisure industry, starting his career as a commission-based sales consultant for Travelbag PLC following a year travelling around Australia and South East Asia. Having built a large and loyal customer base providing tailored made long haul and Round the World itineraries, Dave soon progressed to a Sales Manager position with responsibility for the development of 15 travel consultants and overseeing the recruitment of new sales consultants.
Building on this sales management success led to an Area Manager position for the Airtours group and responsibility for developing 13 retail branches of the Going Places brand in the New Forest Area. In the subsequent 18 months he was responsible for opening a new flagship branch in Bournemouth town centre as well as introducing new staff and driving sales performance, customer service and personal standards throughout the region.
Dave’s travel industry career continued with the Airtours group when he was headhunted within the organisation to spearhead a call centre start up business in Enfield, North London. As General Manager he would recruit and develop a team of over 50 travel sales staff and managers working shifts spread over 24 hours, seven days a week. Staff were recruited with a variety of travel industry backgrounds and Dave used his expertise to create three positive, performing and motivated teams. In addition, he devised and implemented clear operational and sales monitoring procedures to create a competitive and challenging environment focused on delivering a measurably better service for their customers.
In 2000 the opportunity to become Head of Sales at Quest Travel in Kingston upon Thames was a return to long haul tailor- made tour operation and Dave would play a crucial role in developing and re-building the Quest sales and operational teams in this turnaround business environment. This was achieved through back to back recruitment campaigns, induction and development programmes designed to improve customer service, with ongoing sales conversion focus and product knowledge. He was instrumental in the implementation of an effective appraisal system for the whole company as well as building a positive sales and disciplined operational infrastructure during one of the most challenging period in the travel industry’s history.
In 2002, Dave started his own business consultancy which providing blended learning and development programmes to businesses around the World. . He has designed and delivered many training workshops and longer terms consultancy programmes during this time as well as speaking at various business shows and HR conferences.
